As a volunteer (and later as a Member of the Board of Trustees) at the Orlando Science Center (OSC), Phil has designed as well as built many hands-on educational exhibits. The first was Laser Fair at OSC which drew upon his graduate research at the University of Florida in laser excited atomic fluorescence. LAser Fair was such a hit it was adapted for use as a traveling exhibit available for rent. After several years of use it was finally retired and the individual exhibits were disassembled and parts re-used.
Later a major exhibit was built for traveling to other science centers featuring the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci. Also decomissioned, the wood and brass model of a differential gear assembly was donated to the magnet school Pinewood in Sarasota, FL.
